Beans Navy Organic

Navy beans should be pre-soaked in plenty of cold water (with room for beans to double in size) for a minimum of 4 hours before cooking. This removes the naturally occurring lectin and saponin found in many pulses, which can impede digestion.

Drain, rinse well and place navy beans in a pot of cold water, ratio 1:3. Bring to boil, then reduce to simmer until tender. This is about 1.5-2 hours.

Do not add salt while cooking, as this can make the outer skins of legumes tough.

How to Use
Make homemade baked beans by adding pureed tomatoes, ham hock or bacon, sautéed onions, cloves, mustard and paprika.

Cooked navy beans can be added to salads, soups, hotspots and are lovely in curries.

Store in an air tight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
